Sophie's Story
Sophie’s story shows how working in a male-dominated environment can suppress your femininity. She needed a way to re-discover that part of who she is and her boudoir photography experience was the perfect vehicle to take her to the place she felt she had lost.
I had seen a couple of friends who had photo shoots and I had just moved to a new state, begun a new role in my job, was starting a new life and everything was in a state of flux and stress. I thought having a photoshoot would be a reminder of self care for me, even when everything else is chaos.
I’m a female in the Defence Force which is a male-dominated environment but prior to that I had not really expressed my femininity as I prefer adventure sports and the dirt and scrapes of mountain biking. My body to me is a tool to get me through each obstacle and I’ve never celebrated it’s beauty or grace in between initial training or gym.
When I look at my photos today, I feel amazing. I look at the pictures and I still think,
“Oh my gosh, that can’t be me, that woman is graceful, sexy, full of love and fun and beautiful!”
During my photoshoot, I felt really comfortable. Adriana, my photographer, was an amazing coach and made me feel relaxed and supported to know what to do and how to pose naturally for each photo. Whilst we were chatting and laughing she somehow snapped amazing photos of me totally un-choreographed. I felt more and more confident to express myself and try new poses during the photoshoot, bringing more “me” into the images.
These photos are a reminder of who I am and who I can be.
In the chaos and fast lane of life we can find ourselves sidelined into moulds of the roles people or workplaces need us to be. When we spend too long in that, we start to forget of what else we are capable of. These photos remind me that there are different sides to me, from the hard uniformed decision-maker I am at work to the fun adventurer to the beautiful and sexy woman I am.
“Each time I look at the photos, I reinforce that it is me and that I can be the hard, adventurous tomboy person I am and also be this feminine beauty within.”
If you are thinking about doing a photography experience, let me tell you…
It’s so worth it!
You will learn something new about yourself, immortalise who you are now in the moment and have an amazing time.
