Rebecca's Story
Rebecca is just about to turn 50 years young and wanted to celebrate this occasion with a photography experience that would show her love for her husband, new found passion of powerlifting and her beauty.
I decided to have a photo shoot as I will be turning 50 this year. With 50 approaching fast I was feeling lost, old and frumpy.
When I walked in to Zest I was feeling very nervous, scared and a little emotional.
“I wanted to have the photo shoot to prove to myself that 50 is not old and that I am still a beautiful and strong woman.”
I wanted to realise that turning 50 is not a big deal. That I am not just a mum, my role as a mum has changed significantly as my wonderful sons are now older and don't need me the way they used to. I also wanted to capture the love that my husband and I still have for each other after almost 26 years of marriage.
Initially I was very nervous and uncomfortable about being the centre of attention. However as the shoot progressed I became more relaxed, started to feel confident in who I am and definitely felt strong, happy and loved.
“As I became more relaxed and felt more comfortable during the shoot I plucked up the courage to have some lingerie shots.”
I was hoping to maybe get 1 photo that would be good enough to take home, but to my surprise my husband and I chose 20 photos. I was amazed at how the photos showed that I am beautiful and have a cheeky side.
They also captured one of my goals which was to show that being strong (by incorporating my powerlifting) can be beautiful. Dare I say it the photos also showed me that I can still be sexy.
“As well the photos highlighted the strong, beautiful and loving relationship my husband and I have. Thank you for showing me all these things.”
Currently I have the photos in the display box we bought and this is on our coffee table. We are going to put the lingerie shots on the wall in our bedroom and I am going to choose a couple to hang on the wall in the entrance hall where I am establishing a family tree of photos.
Rebecca, what would you say to woman in the same position to you and not sure if they should have their own experience?
Have your photos taken it's a lot of fun. Definitely bring along any props that mean something to you and help define you. Also take the risk of having some lingerie shots. You have nothing to loose and a lot to gain, like highlighting who you are and loving who you are!
