5 Preparation Tips when bringing a Pet to your Family Photoshoot

It’s safe to say that all families with a household pet classify them as an extra child or ‘fur baby’ (to use the popular term). Pets are a big part of what makes our family unique, so bringing them along can help to create some truly memorable moments!

As with younger or more energetic children, timing and preparation is key when preparing for a family and pet photography experience.

Our photographers have compiled a few things to consider for your pooch (or cat, bird, snake, rabbit, crazy crab etc.) before the big day:

Here are 5 important preparation tips for your family and pet photography experience:

1. Bring Treats, Toys and favourite Teddies

Coming into a new space with lots of different sights and smells can sometimes be overwhelming for your pet, and result in them being distracted during your pet photography session.

We recommend bringing along treats to get their attention as well as their favourite toys, comfort teddies and water bowls to help them acclimatise in the studio.

Just like young children, your pet won’t take long to feel comfortable so that our talented pet photographers can work their magic and capture some amazing images of you, your pet and your family together.

2. Beauty Routine

In the same way that you will be preparing yourself for the shoot by doing your hair, shaving, putting on makeup etc. The same goes for your Pet!

Ensure they’ve had a bath and clip so that their fur, fluff, feathers or… scales are nicely groomed and shiny for the their photoshoot.

3. Passion for Fashion

When planning the outfits or overall colour scheme for your family photography session, we recommend laying all the clothes out together to ensure that everything fits together nicely – this visually represents your unity as a family and creates a visually appealing image.

As we’ve already uncovered, your pet is also a vital member of that family unit, so consider how any collars, bandanas, booties or outfits for your pet will complement the colour palette you’ve put together for your family.

 4. Warm up Walks

Your family photography experience will likely involve being in the studio and indoors for a few hours, so any adventurous or energetic pets might begin to get agitated after some time.

We recommend taking them for a little walk before the shoot, giving them time to blow off some steam and go to the bathroom if need be.

5. Don’t worry, we have plenty of time!

We allow more than enough time in your family and pet photoshoot to give your family and your pet time to get comfortable and relaxing. We love to allow our pets to be free of the leash or out of the cage to capture them as themselves.

So, DON’T WORRY!

Our photography team are true professionals and no exactly how to handle all types of animals. Come and enjoy yourself and embrace your memorable photography experience together.
